In other words, their contracts were not renewed because there were not enough students enrolled. Adam Briggs were fired from their positions as private instructors because of low demand. Our sources have informed us that Professor Wolfe was not given her regular music courses chiefly because she is married to Dr. Professor Jennifer Wolfe was assigned two First-Year Seminar courses rather than her regular music courses because her talents were better suited for advising. Ultimately, he was removed because his position allowed him control of a $500,000 endowment to the Jazz Studies program it is implied that the Administration was seeking to control the endowment resources.ģ. Coyle was removed from Head of Jazz Studies by Provost Short-Thompson as a result of sanctions from an investigation into him. That is, he stepped down by his own volition no Hope College faculty member removed him. Brian Coyle willingly “stepped down” from his position as Head of Jazz Studies. Hence, there is no substance to the investigationsĢ. Our sources have told us that these investigations started from politics within the Music Department and that they are a means to remove certain faculty members. There have been or are currently investigations regarding Dr. Then, we will suggest two appropriate responses from Provost Short-Thompson.ġ. Thus, we will publicly present four injustices that have resulted from actions taken by the Administration, as well as the rationale for these actions as told to us from our professors and other trusted sources. Further, information from Hope College staff members confirms that the College has been disingenuous with their responses to our concerns. Despite attempts to convey our concerns to her from both alumni and current students, the provost has not heard our concerns nor answered our questions honestly. We have been involved with the Music Department for a considerable period of time, so we are therefore concerned with the actions being made by the Administration, specifically Provost Short-Thompson. We, the authors of this letter, are current music students at Hope College.
